Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme

The Scottish Government implemented the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme on 28 February 2011. From that date, anyone employed in regulated work will have to be a PVG Scheme member; this includes teachers.

Students need to be PVG Scheme members and we will facilitate this as part of the registration process. The biggest difference for students will be the charge of £59, which has been set by the Scottish Government. This fee will have to be paid at the time of application.

Information for 2021/22 students

As part of the registration process, you will be sent a link to the Existing PVG Scheme Member Application Form (EPVG). This needs to be completed and paid for before you submit your online GTC Scotland application. You then email your completed EPVG, along with three scanned copies of ID (outlined below), to the GTCS. If you do not have access to a scanner, we suggest using a document scanning app, such as Adobe Scanner.

Please note that this is in addition to the PVG or EPVG that you may have already completed for your university when you first started your course and a new PVG/EPVG is required by GTC Scotland's Regulation Team.

Required documentation

The following documents should be returned with your PVG Application / Existing PVG Application:

  • Three copiesof ID
    • One photographic, such as passport or photo drivers licence
    • Bill/document showing your current address
    • Birth certificate
  • Payment details - PVG check is £59 and EPVG is £18. Please complete the enclosed payment form If you are then required to complete a full scheme record check, the fee is £41.

PVG Scheme Membership Statements

PVG Scheme Membership Statements are not sufficient for GTCS and registration purposes as they do not show information that is required in relation to convictions.

If you have a PVG Membership Statement you will be required to complete an Existing PVG Application at the cost of £59 so all of the information required shows on your PVG Scheme Record certificate.
